About Us

Dr Amobi is a Business Analyst, with global experience in the administration, regulatory, commercial, legal, and technical operations of electricity systems in Africa, Europe, and North America. She was the Managing Director / Chief Executive Officer at the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company (‘NBET’) PLC (2016); Lead Rates Economist, Conservation Rates, PowerSmart at the British Columbia Hydro & Power Authority, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada (2009); and. Senior Advisor, Regulatory Affairs & Client Support at the Hydro One Networks, Toronto, Ontario, Canada (2007). She served as a Manger, Gas System Operations in the Competition and Trading Arrangements Directorate at the Office of Gas & Electricity Markets (OFGEM), in England (2001); was a Researcher, Electricity Markets, at Bayes Business School, City, University of London, England (2000); and an Intern, Simulation of the New Electricity Trading Arrangements (NETA), at the London Economics / OFGEM (1999). Dr Amobi started her career in the banking sector, where she worked for more than seven years as a credit underwriter and an investment officer, respectively for three (3) banks in Lagos, Nigeria: Continental Merchant Bank (1990); Prime Merchant Bank (1992) and Citizens International Bank (1994). She has spent more than sixteen (16) years of her career advising executive managers of electricity utilities and the government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Apart from the four (4) years Dr Amobi spent as the Managing Director / Chief Executive Officer at the NBET, she was at different times, an Adviser to the Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC); the Honourable Minister of Power & Steel; and the Honourable Minister of Power. Dr Amobi has a lucid understanding of a wide range of issues, such as: trading arrangements, market design and settlement; dispatch of generation plants and the system operation of transmission and distribution networks; economic regulation; price controls; valuation of assets; credit underwriting and securitization; and the administration of commercial agreements.
EDUCATION
Dr Amobi obtained her PhD in 2005 from Bayes Business School at City, University of London, in England; both an MSc in Economic Regulation & Competition and a Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching in Higher Education from the same University, in 2000 and 2007, respectively. She earned a BSc in Economics in 1989, from the University of Nigeria.
